The center echoes Beijing's strategic position as the National Center for Scientific and Technological Innovation. It brings together top research resources to create a comprehensive platform which aims to push the boundaries of brain science research.

The center will focus on brain diseases related to cognitive disorders, brain-like computing and brain-machine intelligence, brain development in children and adolescents, and the analysis of brain cognitive principles.

A meeting commemorating the establishment of CIBR was held in Beijing, with Yin Hejun, deputy mayor of Beijing municipality, in attendance.

CIBR will strive to meet China's major strategic objectives and break new ground in the field of brain science, according to Yin.

"The center should promote the interflow and integration of innovative elements between different disciplines and departments," Yin said, adding that an environment conducive to innovation is also necessary.
