Zhongguancun holds finals of 2019 Zhongguancun 5G innovative application competition

The finals of the 2019 Zhongguancun 5G Innovative Application Competition were held in Zhongguancun Software Park on Oct 12.

The event is sponsored by the Zhongguancun Administrative Committee, the Beijing Municipal Science and Technology Commission, the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Economy and Information Technology and the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Communication, undertaken by the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology, and supported by the Telecommunication Development Industry Alliance, Zhongguancun Software Park Development Company and Beijing Zhongguancun Technological Financing Guarantee Company.

Liu Hang, deputy inspector of the Zhongguancun Management Committee, delivered a speech at the event. He said that Zhongguancun will further optimize its business environment, upgrade services, improve industrial ecology, and organize operators supported by policy guidance to connect with industry enterprises and demonstration areas of key applications to promote the transformation of more 5G innovation achievements.

One hundred and sixty projects from home and abroad entered the competition. After strict screening, a total of 30 were selected for the finals. The participating projects and teams have made roadshows in turn and interacted with industry-renowned evaluation experts.

The Shunyi Internet of Vehicles Project from China Mobile Beijing Branch, an excellent project in the auto-driving scene, will build a V2X Intelligent Vehicle Infrastructure Cooperative Systems in Beijing’s Shunyi district, promote the R&D and industrialization of advanced key technologies such as LTE-V2X, and coordinate public security, automobile enterprises and Internet applications in project practice so as to enhance informationization and intelligent services of Shunyi roads.

In terms of health care, the 5G remote surgery demonstration application project based on the orthopedic robot technology launched by Beijing TINAVI Medical Technology Company has completed the world's first robotic-based remote surgery that used 5G technology, a new breakthrough in the combination of 5G communication technology and artificial medical intelligence applications.

In terms of the industrial Internet, "5G applications in the power system" put forward by the Research Institute of China Mobile uses 5G network slicing technology and MEC sinking technology to provide an automated, intelligent and reproducible power communication network solution for smart grid development, improve the reliability, flexibility and efficiency of the distribution network, promote the development of 5G innovative applications in the smart grid industry, and advance intelligent construction of the power industry.

Beijing Zhonglianhe Ultra-high-definition Collaborative Technology Center Company has launched China's first 5G+8K full-service broadcasting vehicle demonstration application. It is also the world's first "5G+8K" ultra-high-definition full-service broadcasting vehicle, and leads the world in breadth of video and audio technologies.

At present, the vehicle has completed application testing for the International Horticultural Exhibition 2019 and the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019, laying a solid foundation for the "5G+8K" broadcast of the 2022 Winter Olympics.

In terms of smart cities, the 5G network-based intelligent operation and maintenance platform launched by Beijing Feihong Yunji Technology Company realized the intelligent coordination of equipment maintenance, personnel management and process card control for subway communication signals. The introduction of 5G technology improved the real-time information processing capabilities, sensing and response speeds, and business resiliency and continuity of the system.

In addition, an application test group led by the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology was organized. The application test group tested projects under different application scenarios in the Cuihu 5G Application Innovation Lab of the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology, AITISA, the Ultra High Definition Video Production Technology Collaboration Center, the Industrial Service Center of the Management Committee of the Beijing High-end Manufacturing Base, the Beijing Innovation Center for Mobility Intelligence, Renren Lab and at the Zhongguancun Medical Device Industrial Technology Innovation Alliance. According to the tests, the average maturity of the participating projects was high, and some projects can already be used commercially.

To mark the competition finals a platform connecting the participating enterprises and investment and financing institutions was set up. Twelve investment and financing institutions conducted face-to-face exchanges on future cooperation models with participating enterprises.

The results will be announced at the 5G Parallel Forum of the 2019 Zhongguancun Forum Annual Meeting and the result launch event of the 2nd Zhongguancun 5G Innovative Application Competition to be held on Oct 18.
