Beijing will expand its number of 5G base stations to a total of 30,000 by the end of this year, municipal authorities announced Thursday.

The capital city will build 13,000 5G base stations in 2020, according to its three-year action plan (2020-2022) on accelerating the construction of new infrastructure, which was released this week.

Beijing will also promote the construction of virtual shopping and other 5G-based applications, as well as the 5G transformation of venues for the 2022 Winter Olympics.
