5G competition looks to the future

The finals and closing ceremony of the 2020 Zhongguancun 5G Innovation Application Competition took place in the underwater exhibition hall of Zhongguancun Shougang Park on Dec 18.
The first, second and third prizes were chosen from seven projects in six fields, including core technology, smart parks, intelligent logistics, the industrial internet and drones.
Meanwhile, the Beijing branches of China Unicom, China Telecom, and China Mobile signed strategic cooperation agreements with the Zhongguancun Administrative Committee at the closing ceremony, in a move designed to accelerate the commercialization of 5G.
Zhang Jinsong, deputy secretary general of the Beijing Municipal Government, pointed out in his speech that Beijing has launched a series of guidance papers and action plans to promote the development of the 5G industry.
The competition has facilitated the development of many projects. 78 participating projects have conducted substantial business cooperation with operators, and 26 participating projects have reached market cooperation agreements with upstream and downstream companies in the industry chain, according to Zhai Lixin, director of the Zhongguancun Administrative Committee.
For instance, the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology's Radio Research Center signed a market cooperation agreement with 12 companies and parks including Baicells Technology Co, JD Logistics Group, Unisoc Technology Co, Zhongguancun Software Park and China Telecom Co.
Since the competition opened on July 29, 265 applications from 177 institutions have been received, which is a new record in terms of submissions.
In addition, this contest attracted projects from 17 provinces and cities across China. Competition teams from outside Beijing accounted for 23 percent, far exceeding the previous year's total.
