Sinovation: 'laser ablation' of brain tumor

The first domestic "MRI-guided laser interstitial thermal therapy (LITT)" was recently successfully performed at Beijing Tiantan Hospital Affiliated to Capital Medical University.

Surgeons performed tumor ablation on a 69-year-old female patient, providing new treatment options for brain metastases.

It is worth noting that the LITT system and the minimally invasive kit used in the operation were developed by Sinovation Medical Technology Co, an enterprise in the Zhongguancun Science Park.

LITT is a new brain tumor treatment technology. With the help of intraoperative MRI, hyperthermia can be applied to diseased tissues (brain tumors, epileptic lesions, radiation necrosis, etc.) in real time.

Through suitable and safe temperature and hyperthermia ranges, the diseased tissue can be accurately eliminated without destroying the normal brain tissue or neurovascular structure.

After a joint evaluation by the surgical team and the Sinovation Precision Engineering Technical Team, the operation was performed in the NMR operating room of Beijing Tiantan Hospital.

Precise positioning is the first step of minimally invasive intracranial ablation. The surgeon first uses the Sinovation Precision Surgical Robot System to accurately avoid intracranial blood vessels and then implants the ablation fiber into a predetermined location and path.

Under the guidance of Professor Jia Wang, surgeons performed three lesion ablations in a 3,020.93 cubic millimeter area in 1150 seconds.

The use of surgical robots for precise positioning of ablation fibers breaks through the limitations that neurosurgery robots can only be used for surgery-assisted positioning, so that the surgical robot can fully cover the entire link from diagnosis to surgical treatment.

Postoperative CT showed that the patient had no obvious bleeding or edema. She got out of bed the next day after the operation and was discharged smoothly.

Founded in 2015, Sinovation is a high-tech enterprise in Zhongguancun engaged in the research, development, production and sale of high-end medical devices. It is located in the Zhongguancun Medical Device Park of the Daxing Biomedical Industry Base in Beijing.
