During the "13th Five-Year Plan" (2016-20) period, the Zhongguancun Science Park provided strong support for Beijing's construction as an international science and technology innovation center.

From January to November 2020, the research and development expenses of enterprises above designated size in the park reached 267.58 billion yuan ($ 41.18 billion), about 2.45 times that of the same period in 2015, and accounted for 4.4 percent of the total income of ZGC enterprises in 2020.

From January to November 2020, the number of enterprise patent applications was 97,000, and the number of patent authorizations was 63,000, an increase of 47,000 and 33,000 respectively over the same period in 2015.

By the end of November 2020, the number of companies’ effective invention patents exceeded 1,40,000, an increase of about three times over the end of the "Twelfth Five-Year Plan (2011-15)" period.

During the past five years, in the field of artificial intelligence, Zhongguancun created the world's largest autonomous driving test base, and the world's leading deep learning smart chip.

In the field of integrated circuits, the country's first general-purpose CPU and FPD-EDA full-process solutions emerged here.

In the field of biomedicine, anti-cancer treatment drugs and inactivated vaccines for COVID-19 have been developed.

As to new materials, major achievements such as flexible display technology and the first generation of graphene biochips have emerged.

In addition, the time for high-level foreign talents to apply for "green cards" has been greatly reduced.

During the five years, the total income of ZGC enterprises maintained double-digit growth, reaching 7.2 trillion yuan in 2020, which was 1.78 times the figure at the end of the "Twelfth Five-Year Plan" period.

In 2020, enterprise technology revenue will be 1.5 trillion yuan, an increase of more than 133.4 percent from the end of the "Twelfth Five-Year Plan" period.

From January to November 2020, the scale of the new-generation information technology industry will be nearly 3 trillion yuan, and the scale of the bio-health industry will exceed 200 billion yuan.

By 2020, Zhongguancun established 26,000 new technology enterprises, an increase of 8.9 percent from the end of the "Twelfth Five-Year Plan" period.

As of the end of 2020, Zhongguancun had about 200 business incubators, more than 700 industrial alliances, industry associations and private non-enterprise units, and had gathered nearly 1,400 venture capital institutions and thousands of legal, accounting, and intellectual property service institutions.

From January to November 2020, the proportion of employees with bachelor's degrees and above in the ZGC enterprises above designated size accounted for 63.4 percent, an increase of 9.7 percent from January to November 2015.

Entering the "14th Five-Year Plan" (2021-25) period, Zhongguancun will focus on the transformation of scientific and technological achievements and industrialization to create an institutional environment and governance model conducive to technological innovation and new economic development.
