64 achievements in Beijing win National Science and Technology Awards

The 2020 National Science and Technology Awards Conference was held in Beijing on Nov 3. 

Sixty-four achievements made by institutions in Beijing won National Science and Technology Awards, including three first prizes and 61 second prizes, accounting for 30.3 percent of the total number of awards for general projects, ranking first in the country.

The 2020 National Highest Science and Technology Award was awarded to academician Gu Songfen, founder of China’s aircraft aerodynamic design, and academician Wang Dazhong, a famous nuclear energy scholar.

In 2020, 15 achievements in Beijing won the National Natural Science Awards, making breakthroughs in many fields such as basic mathematical theory, artificial intelligence computing power and algorithms, protein science, semiconductor materials, and low-dimensional carbon nanomaterials.

Among them, two young scientists were awarded as principal investigators, demonstrating the innovation vitality of young scientists. 

The "P-adic Hodge Theory and Application" project by Professor Liu Ruochuan of Peking University won second prize in the National Natural Science Awards.

The "New Paradigm of Deep Learning Processor Architecture" project led by researcher Chen Yunji from the Institute of Computing Technology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences won second prize in the National Natural Science Awards.

Furthermore, more than 40 award-winning achievements recognized at the 2020 National Science and Technology Awards were completed by institutions in Zhongguancun Science City.

The project "Discovery of New Electromagnetic Materials and New Effects Based on Structural Primitives" led by researcher Chen Xiaolong from the Institute of Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences won second prize in the National Natural Science Awards.

The "Industrial Flue Gas Multi-pollutant Synergistic Deep Treatment Technology and Application" project completed by Professor Li Junhua of Tsinghua University won first prize in the National Science and Technology Progress Awards.

Among the award-winning achievements in 2020, the development of the digital economy has achieved remarkable results.

The project "Knowledge-enhanced Cross-modal Semantic Understanding Key Technologies and Applications" completed by Professor Wang Haifeng of Beijing Baidu Netcom Technology Co., Ltd. won second prize in the National Technology Invention Awards.

The "National Supercomputing Infrastructure Supporting Software System" project completed by Professor Qian Depei of Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics won second prize in the National Science and Technology Progress Awards.

The project "Key Technologies and Large-scale Application of Intelligent Technology Information Mining and Knowledge Service" hosted by Professor Tang Jie of Tsinghua University won second prize in the National Science and Technology Progress Awards.
