Huawei Technologies Co announced it will launch an updated version of its self-developed operating system, the HarmonyOS 3.0, on July 27, sending shares of a string of relevant Chinese companies surging on Tuesday.

The move is part of Huawei's broader push to build a robust software ecosystem centering around HarmonyOS amid the US government restrictions.

The launch date was released on Huawei's official Sina Weibo account on Monday. Huawei said in the Weibo post that it will also bring forth several smart home products during the event.

On Tuesday, shares of Chinese companies related to HarmonyOS surged. Unionman Technology Co Ltd, for instance, saw its shares skyrocket by the daily limit of 20 percent to 9.65 yuan ($1.43) in the Shanghai Stock Exchange's Science and Technology Innovation Board.
